FYI,
From Beethoven to Bruce!
Yes, the Crosswicks Library, founded in 1817 has been sharing books since the time before Beethoven completed his ninth symphony until well after Bruce Springsteen belted out “Born in the USA”. And this year
the song we will be singing is “Happy Birthday” to our library as it celebrates its 200th year.
For nearly 150 years the Crosswicks Library moved from home to home along Main Street, and was run by an eager group of volunteers. Today this historic library resides in the old Union Fire Company’s Firehouse
and although much work is still done by volunteers, the library now has a part-time library director and supporting staff.
The Crosswicks Library Company is located at 483 Main Street in beautiful Chesterfield NJ. We are a member library in the Burlington County System. If you have never visited this library, this would be the
year to do so.
Bicentennial events are already underway. Our annual “Super Bowl” Soup sale was a great success, historic artwork of the library and surrounding area is on display, and everyone is invited to join our book
club this month in reading, Dewey the Small Town Library Cat that Changed the World. Yes, one community, one book. In March we will be hosting a VIP night for all those people who have built and maintained our library over the years and in May we will
invite everyone to join in a township wide Library Fest. So put May 20th on your calendars and plan to visit historic Crosswicks, NJ for food, music, family fun and of course lots of book related activities.
