Head of Children's Services
The Pequannock Township Public Library is seeking an energetic, innovative, outgoing and proactive candidate for the position of Head of Children's Services. Our busy Library is located
in a growing diverse suburban community with a population of 15,000.
This management position requires proven experience in supervision, technology, customer service, collection development, finance and people skills. The successful candidate needs to
be a person who is comfortable with multi-tasking. The position will be directly responsible for the busy children's department on a day-to-day basis. Pequannock Library offers hundreds of children’s story time, classes and special events ranging from S.T.E.M.
focused science classes to petting zoos. We had 803 children registered for summer reading for children ages 2-14.
General responsibilities will include: story time, children's programming, children’s reference services and back up adult reference, reader's advisory, collection development, Summer
Reading, Technology Training, website and social media updates. Visits to the Pequannock Township School District schools to promote the Summer Reading Program and library resources and programs for children and tweens generally is expected as is building
upon relationships with school personnel to enrich established collaboration. Expertise in all Microsoft Office products and knowledge of Polaris library automation, Constant Contact, Evanced, WordPress, and E-book platforms is a plus.
In addition, this position supervises and manages the library’s pages and teen volunteers which include hiring or recruiting, training, scheduling and performance reviews, where applicable.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and knowledge of managing a budget are required. It is expected that the person in this position will stay current with new technologies and popular trends especially as related to youth.
Qualifications include an MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution and ability to obtain a NJ Professional Librarians Certification. A minimum of three years’ post MLS/MLIS experience
is required including one year of proven supervisory/management/administration experience.
This is a 35 hour per week position and includes weekday, night and weekend hours. The salary for this position meets NJLA guidelines. All employees are members of the NJ PERS pension
plan. New Jersey residency is required within one year of the date of hire.
Employment offers include a three month probationary period.
