The New Jersey State Library, NJ Makers Day, and the Newark Museum are collaboratively offering free in-person trainings for public and school librarians/staff and staff of afterschool organizations in rural and urban communities using the Leap into Science curriculum developed by The Franklin Institute. It integrates open-ended science activities with children’s books, designed for children ages 3-10 and their families. Three different workshop models are covered in one training: preschool (ages 3-5), elementary (ages 6-10) and one for families, all focused on balance as a science/literacy curriculum topic. The deadline to register is September 19, 2018.

Trainings offered:

·         Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Maple Shade Branch of the Burlington County Library from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (9:30 coffee)

Register here for this training

·         Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Eastern Branch (in Shrewsbury) of the Monmouth County Library from 10:00 – 2:00 pm  (9:30 coffee)

Participate in Leap into Science Week, February 25 – March 3, 2019.

Attendees will:

Receive ongoing support and become a part of a Leap into Science National Network

Have access to the national Leap into Science leadership team and online resources

Receive one set of curriculum and materials kit per organization (valued at $300)

Leap into Science is a nationwide program developed by The Franklin Institute Science Museum and the National Girls Collaborative Project funded by the National Science Foundation. Activities can easily supplement S.T.E.A.M. programs and fit your individual organizations goals. The program empowers educators to offer workshops in community settings like libraries, museums, and out-of-school time programs to engage under-served audiences in accessible and familiar settings.
