P-T Youth Services Library Assistant, Chester Library, Chester, NJ

 

Chester Library is seeking a pleasant, professional library assistant who has experience working with children and teens. This position is 16 hours a week, which includes Saturday mornings and may include evenings. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·       Assisting Youth Services Librarian with organizing and running story time, crafts and other youth and teen programs.

·       Working independently in the Children’s Room answering patron questions, instructing children and parents in the use of the library catalog and electronic resources, and providing readers’ advisory recommendations.

·       Conducting special Saturday morning programs for children.

·       Helping to maintain the Children’s Room and the collection. This includes creating and maintaining attractive book display areas and weeding the collection. Must be able to lift 15 – 20 pounds.

·       Creating flyers, bookmarks and displays to help promote programs and the collection.

·       Circulation desk support as needed.

Qualifications:

·       High school diploma; advanced education a plus with preference given to library science or education backgrounds.

·       Must be tech-savvy with excellent computer skills and proficient with email and electronic databases. Experience with Canva, Publisher and Polaris are a plus.

·       Must be patient, enthusiastic and enjoy working with people and children of all ages.

·       Must be organized, reliable and able to work effectively as a team member.

·       Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; ability to handle difficult situations effectively in cooperation with other staff.
