FYI,
Forwarded by ALSC:
Are you absolutely jazzed about the 2023 Newbery- and Caldecott-winning books? Are they already on hold at your library or being shipped from Bookshop? (Good on you, they're all on backorder for me!) Or did you read some of these titles last year and think "Wow!" but have zero other #kidlit-minded adults in your circle with whom to nerd out about?
ALSC is excited to offer YMA Book Clubs this spring for the two most popular awards, the Newbery and Caldecott. Led by former committee chairs, these book clubs will consist of two synchronous sessions in Zoom where attendees will discuss this year's award-winning titles, as well as asynchronous forums for other recommendations. (IE "OK, so this didn't win, but it was on MY shortlist and here's why!" or "If you liked [insert 2023 award-winning book], definitely check out [other title]."). These are informal discussion spaces, meant for anyone from a new-to-#kidlit adult reader to former award committee members, that connect children's literature enthusiasts who share responses to and thoughts about this year's award-winning texts.
Book clubs are offered at varying times to make participation accessible for both public and school librarians alike. Registration is low-cost, and ALSC members receive 50% off of that fee, as a benefit of their membership.
The first Caldecott session is just two weeks away - register now!
