The August tax bills will be mailed in June and municipal and joint libraries will want to be prepared for any questions that might arise. NJLA is working on an FAQ, and will release that soon. You may also find the attached/following FAQ of use.

Please note that the dedicated line for library service is already displayed on the tax bill for county libraries. Any funding for association libraries will remain in the municipal budget and will not show on a dedicated line.

THE DEDICATED LINE FOR MUNICIPAL AND JOINT LIBRARIES IS NOT A NEW TAX

A new law enacted and taking effect on March 21, 2011 9(P.L. 2011, c. 38 (S-2068)) provides a dedicated line item on the property tax bill to fund municipal free and joint free public libraries.
What it changes: \x95 It changes the way the minimum library appropriation is displayed to the public by creating a new line item on the tax bill for the 1/3 mill \x95 It provides for more transparency in library funding \x95 It creates equity for municipalities supporting county, municipal and joint libraries as all will be displayed similarly on the tax bill

What it does not change: \x95 It does not result in any increased taxes \x95 It does not change existing financial, operational, personnel, or other relationships between a municipality and the library
