FYI,
I’m sending this around on behalf of NJLA’s Public Policy Committee and for anyone who believes in the value of libraries. If you’re free on Saturday, please try to come out to support the Orange Public Library and to support the community
by helping distribute books to kids of all ages to show how important it is for them to have a book of their own and to show how vitally important and needed their library is to their community.
“We are writing on behalf of the New Jersey Library Association to let you know about an event taking place on Saturday, December 14 at 11 a.m. on the steps of the Orange Public Library at 348 Main Street in Orange.
As a community partner, you certainly understand best the importance of library services to the citizens of Orange. Since the Orange Public Library was closed in April, residents have been left without books, as well as access to programs,
job seeking assistance, summer reading for children and public computers. Reciprocal borrowing programs in neighboring communities have provided limited assistance, but there is no substitution for local library service, especially for those with limited means
of travel.
To show our support for your community and the Orange Public Library, we will be distributing brand new books to children and teens. We hope to call attention to the issues that not only Orange Library faces, but all urban libraries.
We hope we can help bring together the community with policymakers in order to develop a plan on how to restore library service to the residents of Orange.
We'd love to count on your support and have you join us on December 14. We encourage you to spread the word about this event to all who may be interested.
If you have any feedback or would like to share how the closing has impacted your organization and its members, please feel free to share with us (give an email address or phone number). We'd love the day to be about the community, and
that means including as many voices from Orange as possible.”
Thank you!
NJLA Public Policy Committee
