Subject: Potential ICE raids this weekend - Resources from Governor Murphy

Potential ICE Raids Beginning Sunday, July 14th

Earlier this week, news sources reported a potential increase in immigration and deportation enforcement starting this Sunday. These targeted raids will impact nearly 2,000 individuals who have already been ordered deported, in addition to those who may be discovered as a result of the enforcement. Though particular cities were not specified by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), activists across the nation are responding as a precaution, releasing statements and increasing education efforts. Today, Governor Murphy released the following statement regarding the potential for ICE raids in New Jersey this upcoming week:

Statement from Governor Murphy on Potential ICE Raids in New Jersey

“In anticipation of the Trump Administration’s threatened ICE raids, we are proactively reaching out to our immigrant communities to make sure they know we stand with them and are prepared to do whatever we can to protect them...

“Any family who needs legal representation should know there are many pro bono legal services available to them. We will be doing everything we can to highlight these resources and to make sure our immigrant communities know their rights and feel at home.”

Last November, the Governor announced that Department of the Treasury allocated $2.1 million in supplemental funding to help provide legal representation for residents facing immigration issues, allocated to Legal Services of New Jersey (LSNJ)American Friends Service Committee, and each of the law school clinics at Rutgers University and Seton Hall University for representation services.
