FYI,
Dear Colleagues,
The New York Public Library is thrilled to announce the launch of our new self-paced early literacy training, Raising the Bar: Integrating Early Childhood Development into Librarian Professional Development. This free training expands on the work of our train-the-trainer materials to offer a comprehensive self-guided individual learning experience. Developed for librarians of all experience levels, this self-paced training can be completed at any time and in any place.
Over the last several years, we have been working on an intensive early literacy training for our over 150+ children's staff that combines youth librarianship expertise with cutting-edge research on child development and best practices in early childhood education. The training was co-created with the City University of New York's Early Childhood Professional Development Institute and funded by IMLS, as well as advised by a national group of experts, including Saroj Ghoting and Susan Neuman.
We developed Raising the Bar as a bridge to connect early childhood development to public librarianship, as libraries are often the first introduction to early learning for families. Expanding upon the fantastic work of ECRR2, our training focuses on family engagement and the belief that all librarians are community anchors, educators and early literacy ambassadors.
We were thrilled to announce the official launch of our new individual learning early literacy training as a resource for librarians everywhere!
