Displaced Homemaker Programs in New Jersey
When: October 8, 2020 from 2:00-3:00pm
Presenters: Maureen Oschse MSW, LSW, Administrator, and Dennis Korn, Program Specialist at the Office of Support Employment & Training, Division on Women, Department of Children and Families
This webinar will explain the Displaced Homemaker Programs available to New Jersey residents. Displaced homemakers are persons who have lost their jobs as homemakers after a substantial number of years in unpaid labor in the home caring for family members. They suddenly lose their source of support through death, separation, divorce or ineligibility for continued assistance with TANF or Welfare. Generally they are middle age-aged or older women with little work experience or evident marketable skills. The Displaced Homemaker programs work with individuals, assisting them with obtaining short term education certificates, employment opportunities, computer technology updates, resume writing and career counseling with a goal of reaching economic self-sufficiency. Libraries serve individuals who may be displaced homemakers and have an opportunity to connect them to resources that could greatly benefit them. Partnering with local Displaced Homemaker Programs also provides an opportunity for libraries to extend services, offer new programs, or promote relevant services and events.
