Have you all heard of Bookswim? It\x92s very similar to Netflix, except it lends books instead of movies.
The New Jersey State Library and Bookswim would like to offer New Jersey Libraries an opportunity.
Here\x92s how we see this working. Let\x92s say your customer wants the latest James Patterson best seller, but is number 22 on your waiting list. The customer has the option of clicking on the \x93Bookswim\x94 button that is on your catalog page. He/she then signs up for an account using a personal credit card, and the book is sent to the customer at his/her home.
Bookswim offers several plans, from an initial cost of $9.95 per month, up to @$40 per month. Details can be found at the Bookswim website www.bookswim.com
Kathleen Peiffer and I have already met with the Bookswim CEO and he is prepared to offer part of his profit back to the participating libraries. Specific financial figures have yet to be decided upon.
So\x85 we are looking for a few innovative libraries who are willing to take the plunge. All we need at this point is an indication of interest, not a full-fledged commitment. More details will follow to those who express an interest.
