Attached is the spreadsheet showing 1/3 mill for 2012 based on 2011 Equalized Valuation. For municipal libraries, this is the minimum expenditure the municipality may give to the municipal library for 2011. The amount shown assumes that the library\x92s budget is based on a calendar year and that the municipality is not using the 15% rule (below). For joint libraries, add the equalized valuation of the two municipalities together and multiply the total by .000333333.

The letter you may need for the auditor will be posted to the NJSL PCSA webpage later this month.

N.J.S.A. 40:54-8.1. Limitation on increase in amount raised by taxation Any increase in the amount raised by taxation for the municipal library as required by R.S.40:54-8 shall not exceed the total amount expended by the municipality in the previous year plus 15% of the previous year's total expenditures for the maintenance of a free public library; except that the State Librarian is authorized to approve additional appropriations to any municipality that requests to appropriate an amount in excess of 15% of the previous year's total library expenditures.
