Library & Social Services Coalition Meeting
On September 22nd at 11am, the Long Branch Free Public Library will host a virtual networking event for social services and libraries unlike any other. As the first NJ library to hire a full-time social worker, we have since found housing for the homeless, assisted the incarcerated with successful reentry into communities, connected people with healthcare, substance abuse recovery, employment, citizenship, GED testing, employment and much more. Additionally, we assisted and partnered with most social service organizations in Monmouth County and have mentored and provided resources to libraries nation-wide (and in Australia), paving the way for an increasing number of social workers in libraries. Libraries like Newark, Jersey City, Teaneck, Red Bank and Asbury Park now have or will soon hav e social workers.
Guest speakers include:
• Senator Gopal, NJ State Senator, 11th Legislative District
• Dr. Robin Mama, Dean of School of Social Work, Monmouth University
• Bob Kantor, NJ State Parole Board & Monmouth County Reentry Task Force Chair
• Elisa Niera, Deputy Commissioner, NJ Department of Human Services
• Nicole Cyr, Coordinator, Monmouth ACTS Advisory Council, Monmouth County Department of Human Services
• Jen Nelson, New Jersey State Librarian
Libraries and social services have shared goals and can no doubt come together to share services and reduce costs- working together to meet the real needs of community members.
