We're having a Hunger Games Lock In and one of the activities is going to be a scavenger hunt where the teens have to follow clues, find a book on the shelf, and then complete a challenge. It's not all finished yet but a few of the things we have planned are:

First Aid--they'll have to find a first aid book on the shelf and the challenge there will be that they have to use toilet paper to wrap the heads, arms or legs of team mates.

Survival food -- they have to locate a book on survival and then there will be an optional challenge where they can eat a cricket. (I ordered them from http://www.teachersource.com/BiologyLifeScience/InsectCandy/Crickettes.aspx  )

Weapon skills -- at some point they'll have to shoot an arrow ( I bought a few bow and arrow sets at the dollar store) through a hula hoop to complete their challenge.

Create a flag or costume -- The teams will each have to complete a flag or costume (not sure which yet!) for their district. I'd like to have some information about what each district is known for and have them use that to make their flag/costume.

There will be some kind of mockingjay contest where they have to imitiate a certain melody to complete the challenge--not sure about that one yet!

Some kind of poisonous leaf or plant identification.

Although I can't remember Katnis ever seeing the stars during the Hunger Games, I'm going to use a constellation challenge I've used before where they have to id several constellations that I've traced onto transparency paper.

I'd like to do an Atlas challenge where they have to find their district using the longitude & lattitude coordinates, but I not sure exactly where the districts are! Any ideas?

Good luck!

Here is a fun idea:
Decorate the library like the arena from The Hunger Games, and have a series of questions (that the librarians have gathered from survival guides and other training books) that the "tributes" can answer.  If there are a lot of tributes, the librarians could even divide them into "districts" and let them compete as a team.  If not, each tribute could play as an individual.
Examples of questions can be found at the Scholastic Hunger Games website.

A co-worker, Doreen, suggested a game: remember the part in the book
where the kid stays to protect the food the rich kids have stocked up
on? Have the "food/supplies" in the middle or end of a room and have the
kids race to get one of the items and back to their designated spot.
Whomever gets back last is eliminated.

How about camo face painting?  Depending on time teams could work as
game masters to
design an arena (maybe diorama style).  What about something on
wilderness survival
and/or edible plants?  I know I kept thinking that there was no way I
would be able
to find food!  You could maybe use info from The Worst Case Survival
Handbook or
contact a scout leader.
