Hi Ellie,
We're planning an "OMG! Posiedon's Son - Mythology Night" and since its theme is not only Lightning Thief but more general mythology, we're including a Red Pyramid activity by using Ancient Egypt as the theme for the craft: cartouche-shaped amulets made (ahead, and dried) from terracotta color Crayola Model Magic. The kids will learn a bit about the Ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses, then use hieroglyph rubber stamps and beads (in lapis or turquoise blue, carnelian, gold, white and other theme colors) to embellish. With leather-like or hemp cording to attach, I'm hoping they will appeal to boys as well as girls. If you like, when I complete my sample in a few days, I'll take a picture and e-mail it to you. We'll let the kids spell their name, or "peace" or "luck" or something like that (with not too many characters to fit in the cartouche) with the stamps.
What activities did you do at your Lightning Thief Party?
Thanks!

Subject: [njyac] Red Pyramid Party

Hi,

Has anyone thought about or already had a Red Pyramid party? I am trying to draw kids in, especially boys, and could use all the party ideas I can get. Had much success with The Lightning Thief Party and am working on a Hunger Games Party but would love to hear fellow librarians suggestions. Thanks in advance.
