I'd just like to add my two cents to this conversation.\xA0 I've worked at libraries that were well staffed and at other libraries that were understaffed.\xA0 I understand how difficult it is to find time to do this extra step when it is hard enough to find the time just to complete our basic library work.\xA0 But when libraries are facing cuts at a local and state level it is extremely important for us to justify and prove why we are integral to our communities.\xA0\xA0There are over 300 libraries in the state and if each of us submitted our statistics in a different way (which it probably would be because if I know anything about librarians is that we like to do things our own way) it would take Sharon a very long time to compile the statistics into a format that is usable for the State Librarian.\xA0 It already takes Sharon a very long time to compile the statistics in a usable manner and that was using Survey Monkey which should have made things easier.\xA0 These statistics are used to explain why the state should pay for NJ to belong to the Summer Reading Cooperative (which gives us access to the graphics, theme, manual, etc.).\xA0 Statistics are annoying and time consuming but they are important.\xA0\xA0Speaking for myself, I am grateful to both Sharon and Norma Blake for always advocating for us and for their hard work.\xA0Thank you Sharon!\xA0Jessica Trujillo\xA0\xA0The State Librarian needs this information to justify continuing the summer reading program.

Subject: [njyac] Re: Clarification about statistics and surveys needed for summer reading program\xA0
Hi Sharon, I reallly don't mean to be rude or challenge you but I would like to know why we have to do all that you reguest below. We keep a record of the children who attend and how many books they read. I just don't get why we have to report this to your office. I know I speak for other libraries in LOGIN. Do you need these numbers for federal funding or a grant? I would really appreciate some feedback from you. I am very short staffed, my children's person is part-time, I am not using Evanced and I will answer your questions below. Just want to know why.

Hi Everyone,

To make this a bit clearer.
\xA0
Everyone has to submit information 2 ways.
\xA0
Everyone needs to complete the survey using Survey Monkey because the State Library didn\x92t pay for the program component of Evanced Summer Reader online registration/report program and the question about program statistics is asked in the Survey Monkey survey. Questions 8 \x96 16 of the survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/878RNK7 pertain to programs.

For anyone using Evanced, the rest of the statistics needed can be compiled using the report function of Evanced. You can generate a spreadsheet in Excel to e-mail to me.
\xA0
For anyone not using Evanced, I would like the statistics sent to me via e-mail. I need everyone to submit:
\xA0
# of registered children
# of actual children\x92s participants
# of books read by children (if you used minutes or hours, you can send that but I\x92d prefer it in # of books if possible)
\xA0
# of children\x92s programs offered\xA0\xA0 ---------------\xA0 found on Survey Monkey survey
# of children\x92s attendees at programs --------- found on Survey Monkey survey
\xA0
# of registered teens
# of actual teens who participated
# of books read by teens (if you used minutes or hours, you can send that but I\x92d prefer it in # of books if possible)
\xA0
# of teen programs offered ---------- found on Survey Monkey survey
# of teen attendees at programs ----- found on Survey Monkey survey
\xA0
# of registered adults (if you did an adult program)
# of actual adults who participated
# of books read by adults
\xA0
# of adult programs offered specifically for summer reading program ----- found on Survey Monkey survey
# of adults who attended these programs ------- found on Survey Monkey survey
\xA0
I hope this makes it a bit clearer. If you have any questions, just e-mail me at ...@njstatelib.org" target="_blank">sraw...@njstatelib.org.
