Hi, Everyone,

I received this on the NJLA Diversity-Outreach listserv and I’m passing to along to you, since I think this information is of interest to youth

services librarians too - especially the booklists.

Hello and happy late Thursday to the newsletter!

(Hat tip to Maud Newton for this one!)

Though the travel ban is temporarily on hold, refugees world-wide as well as those here in the US need our help and support more than ever before. Here's one way to get involved.

The Libraries Serve Refugees project is looking for librarians, researchers, editors, lawyers, and site admins to help them find the best resources for refugee and immigrant populations. They say: "
Please take the time to join us in this work. Together we can carry the load and make this something that will actually help people."

You can volunteer for them, or why not reach out, get in touch, and see if you can set up a similar program (multilingual) at your local library? We all know librarians are badass, this shouldn't be too hard. Like the We Are New York Values thing, let it spread across the country, sharing knowledge and resources.

I'd also suggest you check out some of the stuff on their site, like the "I'm your neighbor booklists" that are aimed at
“building bridges between new arrivals and long-term communities.” Books are browsable by age group,  community represented, theme, and setting. There is also an amazing group called Reforma you could support that gets books into the hands of unaccompanied refugee children. (💦)

Cheers,
Mikki
