Subject: Additional Leap into Science Early Literacy Training Available
Date: August 5th 2018
Please excuse my cross-posting :

To piggyback off of Sharon's Rawlins recent announcement regarding available trainings for Leap into Science, as part of the NJ Leap into Science team, I will also be offering an additional Leap into Science training later in the year for those interested :

Leap into Science Training
Tuesday, October 2 / 12:30pm-4:30pm
Hunterdon County Library -  Headquarters
314 State Route 12, Bldg. #3,
Flemington, NJ 08822

The same grant parameters outlines in Sharon's email apply ( and included below) - this  is just an announcement of an additional training session being offered at another location for those interested in taking advantage of the opportunity.

The New Jersey State Library, NJ Makers Day, and the Newark Museum are collaboratively offering free in-person trainings for public and school librarians/staff and staff of afterschool organizations in rural and urban communities using the Leap into Science curriculum developed by The Franklin Institute. It integrates open-ended science activities with children’s books, designed for children ages 3-10 and their families. Three different workshop models are covered in one training: preschool (ages 3-5), elementary (ages 6-10) and one for families, all focused on balance as a science/literacy curriculum topic.

Anyone being trained must agree to:
  • Complete the entire 4-hour training on the high-quality science and literacy curriculum
  • Offer at least three Leap into Science balance themed storytimes/workshops in your organization by March 2019
  • Participate in quarterly conference calls and ongoing evaluation activities (i.e. surveys, interviews, site visits)
  • Participate in Leap into Science Week, February 25 – March 3, 2019.
Attendees will:
  • Receive ongoing support and become a part of a Leap into Science National Network
  • Have access to the national Leap into Science leadership team and online resources
  • Receive one set of curriculum and materials kit per organization (valued at $300)
Note : We do encourage any library registering for the training to send at least 2 staff members if possible, though this is not a hard requirement.

Please feel free to contact me via phone or email regarding any questions you may have about this training session opportunity.

Leap into Science is a nationwide program developed by The Franklin Institute Science Museum and the National Girls Collaborative Project funded by the National Science Foundation. Activities can easily supplement S.T.E.A.M. programs and fit your individual organizations goals. The program empowers educators to offer workshops in community settings like libraries, museums, and out-of-school time programs to engage under-served audiences in accessible and familiar settings.
