Sharing this for youth services librarians, your adult services colleagues and your patrons/students/teachers, area historians and senior citizen groups.  This festival offers stories for both youth and adults as well as a morning workshop on honing your storytelling skills -- useful both for professional development and for collecting and passing on family stories before they are lost to history. It is free to attend but registration is requested for the morning workshop.  Feel free to forward to anyone you think might be interested.

There will be stories for children and adults from noon to six p.m.. There is also a workshop in the morning for adults -- eligible for continuing education credits.

Think you don’t have any personal stories worth telling? You’d be surprised. In her interactive workshop, “It’s Your Story—Tell It!” master storyteller Rona Leventhal will show you how to begin the process of taking a memory or anecdote and turning it into a story fit for an audience.

In pairs and individually, Rona will guide you through lively writing and speaking exercises that will add details, imagery, and interest to your tale. For educators, these techniques can be modified for any grade level to motivate and encourage students to believe in their ability to create their own stories too.
