Youth Services Department Head
The Livingston Public Library is seeking a dynamic, creative, and highly motivated individual to lead our Youth Services department. Our library is a central component of daily life in a diverse, family-oriented community of 29,000 whose schools are rated as among the highest in New Jersey. The purpose of this position is to provide library services to youth, to their families, and to adults working with youth; promote love of literature; encourage engagement in STEAM learning; and to promote information literacy for youth. As a member of the management team in an innovative and conscientious Library this position requires expertise in forward facing customer service, youth program delivery along with the ability to manage budgets, apply for and manage grants, contribute to the library’s strategic plan, and supervise staff. Strong project management and interpersonal communication skills are required for success.
Given the current conditions of delivering library services during the COVID-19 public health emergency, the successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and confidence in designing and delivering both virtual and in-person programs and services. We are seeking a flexible Youth Services Librarian who believes in providing excellent customer service to children, teens, parents, caregivers, as well as the Livingston community.
About this role:
· Creates and oversees a welcoming and inspiring library environment that is accessible and provides
equitable services to a diverse population
· Develops and conducts fun, innovative, and educational children’s programming and storytimes that
reflect the community’s needs
· Assists patrons with reader's advisory, utilizing e-resources and working with digital
devices
· Oversees the responsibilities of the Youth Services department, including the management
of staff and schedules
· Participates in a number of projects, including but not limited to collaborating with other library
departments, community engagement and outreach to schools and local
organizations
· Enforces and communicates library policies and procedures to the public and the Youth Services
department
· Publicizes and markets library programs and services through social media, press releases, and other forms of
outreach
· Works independently on various projects, while acting as a cooperative and productive team member
· Performs supervisory functions including: setting goals, preparing and administering performance evaluations, administer disciplinary actions and performance improvement
plans
· Participates in professional organizations, attends professional workshops, and other duties as needed and assigned
An ALA accredited MLS and five years of relevant library experience with a demonstrated history of increasing responsibilities including supervisory experience are required for this position.
Salary scale to commensurate with experience and NJLA recommendations. We offer excellent benefits. Schedule includes a week night and rotating weekend. The successful applicant will complete a background check and drug screening.
