Subject: Seeking Librarians for STEM Cryptography Program Development
Date: September 17th 2021

Hi, Everyone,

I am forwarding this for informational purposes only. I received this request from Linda Tripp, Collection Development Librarian, SCLSNJ, on behalf of the University of Chicago Center for STEM Education. Feel free to share it with any of your colleagues that work with middle grade youth.

The University of Chicago Center for STEM Education is seeking two public librarians to assist them as they develop a library cryptography club/program for middle grade students.

The plan is to adapt their existing school/afterschool-based CryptoClub curriculum, developed with a grant from the National Science Foundation, to create materials appropriate for the library setting. These materials would be available at no cost to the libraries, and the expectation is that they would eventually be used by diverse libraries nationwide and particularly those in underserved communities.

The attached document explains the required commitment, and includes contact information for anyone interested in signing up or requiring additional information. The due date is October 1, 2021.

As noted, for this development stage while librarians would be running this as a library program series or club, they would not be expected to lead the sessions themselves. The librarians would be recruiting the patrons and providing input and feedback on how this program could be adapted for use in public library settings, both virtually and eventually in-person. In addition, a stipend or grant is available for participants.
