35 hours per week, including regular weekend and evening shifts.

 

Duties

East Brunswick Public Library, an innovative library serving a diverse community in central New Jersey, is searching for a passionate, creative, and self-motivated library student to join our Youth Services department. The Youth Services Library Trainee will work closely with YS librarians to serve the educational and informational needs of children ages 0-18 and families, with a focus on Tweens and Teens. Responsibilities would include planning and leading programming for all ages, assisting with our busy teen volunteer program, aiding in collection development, and conducting outreach as needed, all in conjunction with the Department Manager and other Youth Services staff. This position will allow the candidate to develop the skills necessary to be a successful Youth or Teen Services librarian while working with supportive, encouraging, nurturing, and creative colleagues.

Like every member of the department, the Youth Services Librarian Trainee will be expected to be an advocate for the needs of teens, youth, and families and will be inspired to develop creative programming and services for them. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible, forward-thinking, and driven to promote the value of the library to our community. This position will involve staffing both the Teen and Youth Services desks and will require regular evening and weekend shifts. Participation in professional organizations such as NJLA, PLA, YALSA, and ALA is encouraged, in order to bring back innovative ideas in Youth Services to our library. Finally, this candidate will demonstrate a strong enthusiasm for working in a collaborative team environment both with Youth Services and across the library in order to advance the mission of the library.

Educational Experience

Candidates must have a minimum of 12 credits in an accredited MLS program, and they must graduate within 18 months of their hiring date. A coursework emphasis on Youth or Teen services is preferred.

 

Salary

Starting at $40,738.00.  A competitive benefits package is included.
