The Centre for Sport and Human Rights launched its Generation 2026: Youth Media Forward Initiative in December 2023. They work to elevate youth voice and advance child safeguarding efforts around sport.

Since one of the locations where the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be hosted is the NYC/New Jersey area, the Centre is providing five to seven teenagers, ages 15-17, who are interested in journalism, the opportunity to apply for its year-long training and mentorship initiative.

The teenagers selected will receive:

• Training on reporting on the human rights dimensions of sport and ensuring responsible reporting practices
• Opportunities to submit stories for publication, through partnerships with media outlets
• Interactive sessions with leaders from the media industry
• The opportunity to help to inform and shape the future of sports media, with a focus on stories that advance human rights.

Participants will also receive an $550 honorarium. The deadline to submit your application (available in English and Spanish) is April 19, 2024. For more information, including how to apply, visit the Generation 2026: Youth Media Forward Initiative.
