The Bank Street Center for Children’s Literature Presents:
BookFest @ Bank Street in Partnership with KidLit TV

Saturday, November 2, 2024 | 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM | Bank Street College and via Zoom 9:30 - 1:00

Keynote, Two-time Newbery Winner, Lois Lowry

About BookFest

Each year, the event, which is designed for adults, features luminaries from the children’s literature community. Authors, illustrators, editors, reviewers, and scholars will take part in three panel discussions at this year’s program. Two-time Newbery winner, Lois Lowry (Number the Stars andThe Giver) will keynote.

We are thrilled to be returning in person this year, for the first time in five years,  to our 112th Street campus auditorium. At the same time, our partner KidLit TV will livestream the event to registrants outside of the New York metropolitan area as well as to those who prefer to attend remotely.

This year, BookFest will feature three panel discussions. Panelists will include award-winning authors/illustrators Rowboat Watkins, Johnny Marciano, Dasha Tolsitkova and Caldecott winners: Sophie Blackall, Brian Floca, and Doug Salati, who all collaborate and share a studio in Brooklyn. Illustrator, Roxie Munro will moderate. A second panel, moderated by School Library Journal editor Shelley Vale, will be devoted to middle-grade authors: Emma Otheguy, Carlos Hernandez, Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich, and Karina Yan Glaser. A final panel will focus on the life and works of Bank Street Graduate School alumna, Robie Harris, GSE ’70. Harris’s best-known book, It’s Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, and Sexual Health, made her among the most banned authors in the United States. This panel will include Harris’s son, Ben Harris, and authors Liz Levy, Lois Lowry, Susan Kuklin, Amy Hest, and Harris’s long-time Candlewick editor, Hilary Van Dusen. PEN America member and author Fatima Shaik will moderate.

A book signing, with works provided by Books of Wonder, will take place after the live event.
