The State Library was recently informed that Newsbank sales representatives have been contacting New Jersey libraries to tell them that they have concluded an exclusive agreement with the Star-Ledger, and the Star-Ledger will be leaving the Infotrac Database and going with NewsBank sometime around August. After contacting Gale, their response was as follows:

\x93At this time, Gale has exclusive access to the Star Ledger through the end of calendar year 2008. If plans are underway to transfer this access to Newsbank, the Star Ledger will need to give Gale 90 days notice, so Gale will know by the end of September if this is really happening. At any rate, the Gale representative said we will be fine until at least December 31, 2008.\x94

A subsequent email to Newsbank returned this reply:

\x93NewsBank is still working with the Publisher (The Star Ledger) to get this announced properly. In the meantime our representative has discontinued calling customers until this is finalized.\x94
