This is a discussion list, not a newsletter. If the list owner sends an email to which someone subsequently replies, everyone on the list will get the question and its reply as it pertains to the subject matter. Listserves are inherently global collaboration devices such that, if someone asks a question and someone answers it, the question is answered for all to hear so the question and answer are not frivolously restated. That question and answer are also archived so it can be retrieved in the future. See the following site for NJYAC Archive:

Here is a wiki on 'listservs' that you might find interesting. Pay special attention to the 'Types of mailing lists' section:

I hope I have answered your question or at least gave you information enough to make your decision.

I am confused.  Should I unsubscribe?  I am going all sorts of emails from other people when I did not send any out.

Subject: [njyac] Changes to List Serve
Date: Fri, 18 Jul 2008 08:49:36 -0400

There were recently some changes made to the list serve. These changes will
have the following affect:

* Emails posted to njyac:@:njstatelib.org (without the colons) will be
posted directly to the list without moderation.

* Replies to messages coming from the list will be addressed back to the
list. If you want to email someone directly, copy and paste their email
address from the message. Otherwise, your email message will go to the
entire list.

* Automated responses, except Out of Office notices, will get a person
unsubscribed from the list with little or no warning. The only robot here is
the list service itself and he's kinda territorial.

If you have any technical questions about the list, please email me
directly, tgansert:@:njstatelib.org. If you have any subject matter
questions, please email srawlins:@:njstatelib.org. If you would like to post
to the list, please email njyac:@:njstatelib.org. Make sure you remove the
colons in the addresses before attempting to send!
