Hi Jan --

I tried googling your clues, on a whim, and though I didn't identify your story, it looks like it's probably Vietnamese, so that's one more clue .....

I sent this out about a week ago but didn\x92t see it on the list so
I\x92m trying again. Thanks,

I have a patron looking for a folktale where an emperor who is very
hungry is given soup which he finds delicious. He tries to recreate
that taste unsuccessfully for years, later learning that hunger is
the best seasoning.

I have tried using both editions of The Storyteller\x92s Sourcebook
using terms such as \x93hunger\x94, \x93food\x94, \x93seasonings\x94 etc.
