Rhea Rubin, author of Demonstrating Results: Using Outcome Measurement in Your Library, will present three FREE workshops on outcomes-based evaluation (OBE) in November 2008. Librarians from all types of libraries are invited to attend. At the workshops, participants will be introduced to OBE, a method to assess the impact of a library program or service on users.

OBE is a user-centered approach to the planning and assessment of programs or services that are provided to address particular user needs and designed to achieve change for the user.

Libraries use OBE to:

Identify effective programs/ services Gain insight into why and how library services are used Gather empirical evidence that what you\x92re doing is what you intended Energize staff by demonstrating the real, human impact of their work Assist in fundraising & grant writing by providing statistics on actual results Demonstrate accountability as required by many funders, including IMLS under the Government Results and Performance Act of 1993 Workshop participants will learn:

How to select the most appropriate programs for OBE How to determine the right outcomes for a given program How to make the outcomes tangible and measurable What types of data are typically collected The pros and cons of popular data collection methods How to use the results of an OBE Two of the workshops will be introductory in nature. The third workshop will offer ADVANCED Outcomes Based Evaluation training. All workshops are FREE but are limited to 35 people.
