Date: October 2nd 2008
Always, excuse the cross-postings...

Celebrate Reading Group Month and One Book New Jersey!

OBNJ offers two special online book discussion opportunities in October!  Join us at www.bccls.org on Thursday, October 16 (7-8 p.m.) and Monday, October 20 (7-8 p.m.) to discuss the 2008 OBNJ Adult Selection The Plot Against America by Philip Roth.

All are welcome.  No registration is involved.  At the given day and time, all you have to do is go onto the BCCLS website, click on the provided link, choose a name (like your name & town or library), and start chatting!  Transcripts from the discussions will be made available at the end of October.  You can read transcripts from our April chats of the 2008 OBNJ Teen Selection, Dr. Franklin's Island, with author Ann Halam at www.bccls.org/OBNJ!

In the words of Philip Roth from The New York Times, 19 September 2004:

"To tell the story of Lindbergh's presidency from the point of view of my own family was a spontaneous choice. To alter the historical reality by making Lindbergh America's 33rd president while keeping everything else as close to factual truth as I could-that was the job as I saw it. . . . It also gave me an opportunity to bring my parents back from the grave and restore them to what they were at the height of their powers in their late 30's . . . and then to go ahead to imagine how they might have conducted themselves under the enormous pressure of a Jewish crisis such as they never really had to encounter as native-born New Jerseyans, living all their lives, luckily enough, without an Aryan white supremacist in the White House. I've tried to portray them here as faithfully as I could-as though I were, in fact, writing nonfiction."

And, don't forget - VOTING FOR THE 2009 TITLES ENDS TOMORROW! Go to www.onebooknj.org to place your vote now!
