Anderson Cooper recently announced the top 10 CNN heroes, each of whom will receive $25K. A top hero will be announced on Thanksgiving Day and that individual will receive $100K.

Among the ten finalists is one of my former students, Yohannes Gebregeorgis. He is recognized for championing children through his program, Ethiopia Reads. Yohannes also received one of the first ALA Presidential Citations on Innovation in International Librarianship at the 2008 ALA Annual Conference.

You can read more about the CNN heroes at http://www.cnn.com/heroes where you can also vote for your CNN hero of the year. (The voting is open until Nov. 20, 2008).
