Sharon Rawlins Youth Services Consultant NJ State Library

The New Jersey State Library is pleased to sponsor two workshops as part of our Preservation Program: A Matter of When, Not If...Preventing and Preparing for Library Disasters

This full day workshop will examine two facets of disaster planning--prevention and preparedness, in addition to new and expanded sections on:

Technology Salvage:

In the wake of a disaster it can be difficult to know where to begin the technology recovery process. With so many other pressing concerns how should you prioritize IT recovery? What steps need to be taken immediately and which can wait?

Continuity Planning:

Continuity Planning may have begun in the business community but there is much here applicable to libraries. It is different than a Disaster Plan, and addresses how to get your library open and running again after an emergency, and the importance of public library Internet access in times of emergencies. As demonstrated after the devastating Gulf Coast hurricanes of 2004 and 2005, public libraries were a place of first refuge for their communities in times of crisis, and played substantial roles in helping their communities get through and rebuild after emergencies.
