Dear Youth Services Program Planners,

In turbulent times, when feelings of uncertainty and concern about the future seem to be part of many families\x92 daily lives, gentle stories have a powerful ability to soothe the soul.

Two presenters have visited Watching Library to share books, and each has brought something more: Peace. Yes, these readers certainly know how to choose great stories, but for those with the ears to hear between the lines \x96 and children are among such listeners \x96 there is a sound of quiet reassurance and the gentle reminder that all is well.

So please consider the gentle gifts these experienced presenters offer. They are masters at their craft. While magic shows and concerts offer children a chance to shout, march and run in circles, these book-based programs are more like lullabies. If you would like to add this sound to your mix of morning, afterschool or evening programs, or if you\x92re simply understaffed, here are the people you can call:

Bob Biastre: Books with Mr. Bob Bob, who has been a children\x92s librarian for over 25 years, combines the timeless ease of Mr. Rogers, and \x93The Voice\x94 that Barry Bostwick only wishes he had. Bob works in real time with his young audience, highlighting their world and giving them opportunities to look, listen and repeat new things. Debbie Kirsch: Story and Craft with Debbie Kirsch Debbie, an early childhood teacher and artist, brings books to life. She captures the children\x92s attention with an almost whispered reading of a story. Then as if by magic, she creates an art project using the simplest of library art supplies (paper, markers, beans and chenille stems).
