ChoiceBooks
is a book list wiki hosted by NJLA's CSS. Currently I am trying to put
together a list of libraries and schools in NJ that hold a mock awards
event no matter how grand or humble. In Ocean County for example a
small group of us gets together before ALA midwinter at someone's house
and we eat and argue and ultimately pick our winners. Last year we got
pretty close (We had no idea we could consider Hugo Cabret for the Caldecott so it didn't make it as a winner but as a Newbery honor.) I know what a great tradition BCCLS
has and I would love to hear from more of you. Right now in Ocean
County we are trying to narrow our Newbery shortlist to 5 and our
Caldecott to 7. Let me know how you run your mock awards and how you
manage your lists and of course--who you choose as your winners and
honors.
Thanks
Priscilla Cordero
