From: Tina Keresztury, Associate State Librarian Subject: ARRA Update Date: April 14, 2009
I wanted to give another update on what the State Library is doing with regard to the Recovery Act funding. This week, we are more fully developing our federal legislative agenda which was previously posted on our online newsletter which can be found on our Web site. State Librarian Norma Blake will be taking these proposals to Washington at the end of the month for discussions with our federal legislators. She will be part of a congressional delegation from Thomas Edison State College visiting Washington specifically to discuss the Recovery Act.
Our joint recovery committee with NJLA representatives continues to meet and follow every communication we receive from ALA and COSLA, and attend Webinars and sit in on conference calls about ARRA. We also check the recovery sites daily both in the state and nationally and follow up on every potential lead for funding. With NJLA, we are setting up meetings also with state legislators to discuss ARRA as we also meet on the Governor\x92s proposed budget.
Rob Zangara will be forming a broadband task force to develop a proposal with NJ Edge for possible broadband funding. Details will be coming on that project soon. Rob will be inviting people to join this important task force.
We are also in the process of setting up meetings with the State Department of Labor, and the district offices of the US Small Business Administration and the US Economic Development Administration to pursue funding opportunities and partnerships for libraries.
Please contact me anytime with questions or with your success stories if your library receives ARRA funding from any source. I can be contacted at tkeresztury@PROTECTED at any time.
