On June 24, 1664, the name "New Jersey" first appeared as the designation for the territory that now comprises our state. On this 345th anniversary, we will salute our state\x92s history as a key element in our classrooms, our cultural life, and our tourism industry.

The event will recognize students, teachers, and authors who have contributed to the study of history in New Jersey. There will be a 345th birthday cake, plus tours of the State Museum, State Archives, the State House, and the NJ World War II Memorial.

On display will be The 1664 Royal Grant that created New Jersey and a rare original copy of the Declaration of Independence made possible by the National Student/Parent Mock Election, The Pearson Foundation. and the non-profit youth voter education organization Declare Yourself in recognition of New Jersey\x92s students as winners for the largest number of participants in the National Student Mock Election this past Fall, and for demonstrating leadership in educating young people of the importance of every single vote.
