Letters About Literature 2009-2010 Contest

Letters About Literature deadline is December 12, 2009!

Letters About Literature is a national contest sponsored by the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress with state participation coordinated by each state's Center for the Book (http://www.njcenterforthebook.org/ ). Each year thousands of students write to favorite authors telling them how the authors' writing has impacted the students' lives. The contest is for three levels: Level I is for Grades 4-6, Level II is for Grades 7 & 8, and Level III is for high school. Please visit http://www.lettersaboutliterature.org/ for all the details, for lesson plans, and to read last year's winning essays. Be sure to read the one from our New Jersey winner, Joshua Tiprigan, of Northern Highlands Regional High School. For his letter to Rudyard Kipling, Joshua won a $10,000 reading grant for a library, which he donated to the Northvale Public Library.

The deadline for this year's contest is December 12, 2009. All entries must be accompanied by an official coupon, available at http://www.lettersaboutliterature.org/ . As the website states: \x93Are you a teacher? Your students can enter! Are you a librarian? Your young patrons can enter! Are you a home schooler, parent or instructor? Your child, too, can enter!\x94

Let's have another New Jersey winner this year!
