Hello!
I have an amazing opportunity for your
teens -- please pass this information on to them!
On Thursday, July 29 from 6-8pm, we will be
hosting our first ever Writers' Workshop. The first part
of the program will be a panel discussion with authors and other experts in the
field discussing their work and careers in writing/publishing. The second
part will provide an opportunity for teens to meet one-on-one with one of the
experts, and have their work critiqued. Our panel includes Scott
Westerfeld, Justine Larbalestier, Bob Krech, Tracy White, Eireann Corrigan,
Samantha Schutz and Sharyn November (editor at Penguin Books for Young
Readers). Teens interested in having their work critiqued must submit a
writing sample by Thursday, July 8 to my e-mail address or Facebook
account. All teens are welcome to attend, but they must register in
advance (again by sending me an e-mail or fb message).
On Thursday, August 12 from 6-8pm, we will
be hosting our first ever Artists' Workshop. Again, the
first part of the program will feature a panel discussion, and the second part
will be an opportunity for teens to meet with our experts to have their work
critiqued. The students should bring their work on the night of the
workshop -- nothing needs to be submitted in advance. Our panel includes
local artist Gina Minichino, graphic novelist Mike Cavallero, manga artist Yali
Lin and a representative from the publishing community. Again, all teens
are welcome to attend, but they must register in advance by sending me an e-mail
or fb message.
If you or your teens have any questions
regarding either of these workshops, please feel free to contact me. Don't
forget: registration is required! These workshops are open to
students in grades 6-12 and are free of charge. Books will not be for
sale at the event, but if students would like to bring a book to have signed,
they may.
Thanks,
Kimberly
