That sounds really good. I'll give it a try.

THE BOY WHO HARNESSED THE WIND by Kamkwamba. Autobiography, but reads like novel, about a middle/high school aged Malawian boy who built a windmill to power his home, irrigation, cell phones, village. Describes childhood of believing in magic, then starvation during famine of 2004, then personal research and cumbersome fashioning of windmill from junk and self-made parts. Fantastic!
