Strategic Planning Template & Workshops
The New Jersey State Library supports strategic planning as a management tool to determine a library\x92s mission, vision, values, goals and objectives, roles and responsibilities, and to determine benchmarks and timelines that will shape the library\x92s future. All libraries should have an updated strategic plan of three to five years, initiated by the Board of Trustees.
To assist libraries with their long-range planning goals, the New Jersey State Library has contracted with the Ivy Group to produce a Strategic Planning Template showing steps that libraries may complete on their own. The template will be posted on the New Jersey State Library's website in mid February 2011.
For those libraries wanting assistance in completing the steps necessary to prepare a strategic plan, the New Jersey State Library, in partnership with LibraryLinkNJ, will sponsor two workshops and two follow-up sessions in late March/early April on strategic planning. These sessions will be presented by the Ivy Group. In addition, library directors and trustees who have attended these sessions will have the opportunity to discuss their strategic plan individually with the Ivy Group at a reduced rate negotiated by the State Library.
The Ivy Group, along with NJSL staff members Michele Stricker, Deputy Director of Library Development, and Victoria Rosch, Associate State Librarian, and Patricia Tumulty, Executive Director of NJLA, will present a program on Strategic Planning at the NJLA Annual Conference on May 3, from 3:30 to 4:20.
Further information will be forthcoming regarding the availability of the template, and registration at the workshops.
