I was emailing too quickly and not paying attention, hence, going to reply rather than just Kathy's email :- )

We've had performers not show up for the NJLA Performers' Showcase.  One time we had 3 no-shows for one Showcase...so now we have 2-3 "stand-by" performers.  But for our library, in the 11 years of having programs, I've not had any no-shows (knock on wood I won't have either).  I have had late-shows so I have a few stories/story boards/sing-a-longs/games available (theme related if possible) to keep the audience occupied until the performer arrives.  I do keep a movie available (again, theme related) in case a performer does not show.  If and when performers are late or don't show, whether it be for the Showcase or my library, I let the performer know that I will caution my fellow/sister librarians concerning the lateness or no-show.  I've actually gotten free shows and discounted shows from performers trying to make restitution..not a bad deal.

Thanks for the heads up, Kathy! It's the worst thing I've ever had happen.  I always have a bad stomach until the performer shows up!  Now, I keep a  Disney movie around for just this type of emergency, but I've only had to do it once.

We had a no-show storyteller last weekend, leaving us with 60 disappointed children and parents. Phone calls to the storyteller that morning went unanswered.  Two days later, we received the following e-mail, from the storyteller, Kala Jojo whose site is http://www.kalajojo.net  Needless to say, we will not be re-booking this performer.

Please know that I am so sorry that things turned out the way they did. I have a major challenge that I'm confronted with and it totally zapped me. My eldest son was to contact all of my appointments but failed to call the friday and saturday program contacts. Please know that I am deeply sorry, and can't bare to think about those families waiting to see me. I was going to call you on Tuesday once I found out where I stand Health wise.
