Strategic Planning Sample Format and Workshops
The New Jersey State Library and LibraryLinkNJ supports strategic planning as a management tool to determine a library\x92s mission, vision, values, goals and objectives, roles and responsibilities, and to determine benchmarks and timelines that will shape the library\x92s future. All libraries should have an updated strategic plan of three to five years, initiated by the Board of Trustees.
Strategic Planning Sample Format: To assist libraries with their long-range planning goals, the New Jersey State Library has contracted with the Ivy Group to produce a guideline to Strategic Planning showing steps so that libraries may complete a plan on their own. The guideline is now posted on the New Jersey State Library's website at: http://www.njstatelib.org//LDB/sample_strategic_plan_format.pdf
For those libraries wanting assistance in completing the steps necessary to prepare a strategic plan, the New Jersey State Library, in partnership with LibraryLinkNJ, is sponsoring two workshops, plus two follow-up workshops on strategic planning. These sessions will be presented by the Ivy Group.
Workshops are limited to 30 attendees and it is mandatory that both the director and a library trustee attend together (15 libraries in each workshop). Priority will be given to libraries with no strategic plan.
