As you know, NJSL collects data annually through one survey. This survey provides the data to determine PCSA compliance, provide data to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (http://harvester.census.gov/imls/publib.asp), and collect important information used with the library field as well as elected officials. Counting Opinions will function as the software for the annual NJ Public Library survey, and it will give all of you the opportunity to create monthly, quarterly and yearly reports, compare your statistics from month to month and year to year, compare your statistics to similar libraries and give you, NJSL and NJLA statistics to better understand and explain the impact recent events have had on libraries.
You may want to know what the monthly questions cover. First, there are no mandatory monthly questions. There are 25 monthly questions that will provide the service statistics most needed for reports. In addition, this data (unless labeled \x93Input Field)\x94 will roll nicely into the annual report so that you will have these fields completed automatically. There are 16 questions that are very important to libraries in these difficult times. These only need to be filled in once unless circumstances change. Please see the attached for the exact questions. There are lots of other questions that are for your information only \x96 if you want to use them. These would also populate the annual report.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I know the annual survey is not a lot of fun, but I hope you will enjoy the charts and graphs and pie charts of the new software all year long.
Best wishes, Victoria
