Kate,

Thank you for the information.  Please note that I anticipate another break from the committee for 2011-2012.  I guess that the new board has not been selected yet.

Have fun at NJLA.  I am not able to attend.

Subject: [njyac] YA at NJLA: See you at the Conference!

The Annual NJLA Conference is upon us!  It's not too late to join us and register on-site.

Please excuse any cross-postings...

The Young Adult Section of NJLA is pleased to invite you to what promises to be a fabulous Pre-Conference program on Monday, MANY great programs on Tuesday, and a fun-filled Garden State Award Luncheon on Wednesday with keynote speaker, Jacqueline Woodson!

Books without Borders PreConference
Well-known author and genre maven Diana Tixier Herald will talk about the recent publishing explosion of books that cross genres and encompass material relevant to a variety of reading and interest levels.  She will incorporate resources for keeping up on trends and other useful readers\x92 advisory tools, and she will touch upon hot titles and authors who are writing for both adults and teens in a variety of genres and other current market trends.  Sponsored by the YA Section and the Readers' Advisory Roundtable.

Garden State Book Award Luncheon
Round out this year's Conference on Wednesday afternoon with a celebration of the 2011 GARDEN STATE CHILDREN'S & TEEN BOOK AWARD winners with prolific author Jacqueline Woodson!  Ms. Woodson has written books for all ages and her work has been awarded many recognitions, most notably the Caldecott Medal, the Coretta Scott King Award, the National Book Award, and a Newbery Honor.  In 2006, Ms. Woodson received the Margaret A. Edwards Award honoring her outstanding lifetime contribution to writing for teens.  The author will be signing copies of her books both BEFORE and AFTER the Luncheon; copies of the books will be available at the NJLA bookstore throughout the Conference.

Tuesday's conference programs include:

Censorship & Book Challenges : It Could Happen to You with Grayson Barber, Dee Venuto, and Revolutionary Voices.

Surefire Reads for Teens with Diana Tixier Herald.

Teen Tales : Writing and Publishing with Teens highlighting a wildly successful writing program at Cape May County Library.

Best of the Best Fiction for Young Adults, the updated former BBYA program from years' past with Sharon Rawlins and Liz Burns.

Bullying -- How to Spot It, How to Help, and Why It Matters where there will be a discussion of bullying and cyberbullying in NJ communities, as well as of the specific needs of the LGBTI population.

TEEN AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT with Barry Lyga, Eireann Corrigan, and Susane Colasanti, complete with author signings!
