Hi, everyone,

I have relocated to Bangor, Maine from NJ where I worked in the Highland Park Public Library as the Teen Librarian.  Jobs are scare up here in central Maine so I am currently volunteering in a really wonderful high school library.  I am planning a book swap for the end of the school year.  I have never done this before so I am  hoping some of you may have some good ideas for me.  What works, what doesn't?

I don't want to store the books so I am going to ask the kids to bring them to the one day swap and give them "credit" for each book they bring - bring 5, take 5 kind of thing.  Even if they don't bring one I'd like them to be able to take one. I will have a startup collection to give away (from donations from librarians and teachers and my own kids bookshelves!)  I
There is also an active anime club and book club at the HS that I am hoping will get involved and have a lot to swap. Permabound can send me a few new titles so maybe I can raffle those off as opposed to having them in general swap?

I was thinking they could come with their books, we can have refreshments for awhile or play a game while volunteers try and sort the books if necessary (not sure what the turnout will be) I always envision EVERYONE wanting to come.  Why not think big?  The HS has 1300 kids in it.  Actually, I am really hoping for 50 kids. Sound reasonable?  I will give away what is left after swap.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks for remaining my helpful colleagues! Feel free to respond off list to mrea...@yahoo.com

Sincerely missing all of you!

Happy Summer Reading!
