FYI,
I’m passing this along on JP Porcaro’s behalf. Sorry I scheduled the NJ State Library/NJLA Youth Services Forum in the same day as the NYCC Professional Day. I never would have done so, since I want to be there that day too!, except I didn’t realized they’d scheduled an extra day thi
s year. The NYCC is a blast and I hope you can get there one of the other days.

From JP:
GENERAL ATTENDANCE INFO:
Librarians can register for either a FREE 1-day pass for Professional Day (October 13th, unfortunately the same day as the NJ State Library/NJLA Youth Services Forum) or pay $10 for a 4-day Professional Pass. If you register by Friday they'll mail your ticket, otherwise, you can pick it up at the event. The link to register is in the forwarded email at the bottom.
I need volunteers for two things: to speak on panels & to staff the library booth.
SPEAKING INFO:
Here are our (by our, I mean the ALA Comic Book and Graphic Novel Interest Group) 3 panels, with people I've confirmed as speakers via email:
“Digital Comics & Libraries - Past, Present & Future” - David Lisa & Michael Maziekien
“Video Game Collection Development for Libraries” - JP & Mike Bobish
“National Gaming Day @ your library: Using Video Games and Comic Books as library outreach tools.” - JP
I'm specifically looking for library staff with experience in the areas mentioned who are excited to share those experiences. Speakers can be anyone in your library: teen workers/paraprofessionals/part timers/librarians/directors are welcomed&encouraged. Write back to me with what panels you wanna speak on. I need your names ASAP so I can hook you up with a shiny speaker badge!!
BOOTH STAFFING INFO: (No one from ALA will be attending (they are mailing me all the items for the booth) so it really doesn't matter if you are an ALA member or not as far as speaking and staffing goes.)
The booth will be open the entire time the con is going on, so I'll need people to hang with me across the convention. I really would rather not do a doodle poll with times and such, so write back to me with times you'd like to staff the booth. I'll cover the gaps in the schedule.
EPIC LIBRARIAN PHOTO:
Let's show the country why our area's librarians are the best! Last year at NYCC we had an EPIC LIBRARIAN PHOTO which ended up being covered in School Library Journal. At C2E2, the Chicago-area librarians tried to show us up by having a bigger photo. I'd love to do an even BIGGER one this time, and hopefully get some media coverage of it. Please click this link to RSVP and for more info!!
OTHER INFO:
I have a few librarian friends from out of town who wanna split hotel rooms, so also hit me up if you are interested in sharing a room with some of us.
Please please pass this email on to individuals I've missed. This email is going out to the Infolink, NJLA Children's, and NJLA YA section listservs. Please pass on to other listservs of interest, ESPECIALLY NYC area listservs.
Thank you so much for your time, this will be a fab event that will raise awareness of libraries at the second-largest gathering in NYC. I encourage you to attend the event even if you are attending the Youth Services Forum and/or don't want to staff the ALA booth or speak. It's a really really fun time! Especially valuable if you are developing graphic novel/video game/movie/pop culture collections in your library.
Regards,
JP
