a resource for new and seasoned librarians. Jenine has taught for the
University of Washington's Information School, Simmons College, and

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and teaches Public Libraries courses for
the University of British Columbia's Library School.

Supporting Teen Street Lit Readers: Str eet lit-gritty stories about daily
life, relationships, and survival in poor, urban neighborhoods-is a popular
and powerful genre that libraries cannot afford to ignore. This workshop
lays out the characteristics of street lit as a genre, explores why teen
readers gravitate toward street lit books, and helps participants plan
collections, services, and advocacy that support the needs of teens who read
street lit.
After attending this webinar, Participants will be able to:
* Define characteristics and appeals of street lit as a genre
* Articulate the importance of street lit to teen readers
* Develop strategies for meeting teen street lit readers' needs in any
library

Serving LGBTQ Teens: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and
questioning: this set of terms doesn't come close to capturing the diversity
of teens who are marginalized because of their gender and/or sexual
orientation. In this workshop, we will discuss the many and varied needs of
LGBTQ teens, suggest resources that libraries can provide for this
population, and strategize ways to create supportive, respectful spaces and
communities for LGBTQ teens in libraries.
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
* Recognize a broad range of experiences among LGBTQ teens
* Identify common information needs of LGBTQ teens
* Develop strategies for supporting LGBTQ teens' safety and well-being
in library spaces
