Dear Colleagues:

The State Council for Adult Literacy Education Services (SCALES), established within the State Employment and Training Commission by the legislature, will host three regional stakeholder meetings to gather data on the provision of local literacy services and get input on how to improve delivery.

SCALES is conducting an analysis of the gap between the need for adult literacy services in New Jersey and the capacity of the system to meet this need. Because adult literacy is an integral component of New Jersey\x92s workforce investment system, it is crucial that we ensure that those in need of services have opportunities to enhance their skills and earn appropriate credentials. The importance of adult literacy cannot be overstated. Literacy skills are an essential foundation for workplace success and positively correlated with the economic and social wellbeing of the community.

We encourage you to participate in one of the following regional stakeholder meetings and ask that you invite some adult learners to attend as well:

Thursday, November 3, 2011, 1-4 pm Gloucester County College, Scott Hall \x96 Room 709 1400 Tanyard Road Sewell, NJ 08080

Monday, November 7, 2011, 1-4 pm New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services Building Auditorium \x96 Room 106 369 South Warren Street, Trenton, NJ 08625 Thursday, November 10, 2011, 1-4 pm Essex County College, Main Building 4th Floor \x96 Room TI20 303 University Avenue Newark, NJ 07102

For security reasons, each attendee must register by contacting Diane Evans (email diane.evans@PROTECTED or phone 609-633-0605) at least two days before the meeting.

We look forward to your input.

Regards,

Lansing Davis, Senior Policy Analyst
