REGIONAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE NETWORK GRANT FOR CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS IN ATLANTIC & CAPE MAY COUNTIES
The New Jersey State Library and LYRASIS Digital & Preservation Services invite you to participate in the development of a Regional Emergency Response Network model in Atlantic and Cape May Counties to assist cultural heritage institutions. This effort will result in the creation of region-wide emergency response networks and will provide support in joint planning, response, and recovery while fostering emergency readiness among the individual members of the network.
As part of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Preservation and Access grant, LYRASIS is working with the New Jersey State Library to ask cultural heritage professionals to attend, participate in, and provide feedback to aid in refining the model. The goal of this project is that participants will be able to use this model in their home regions to develop an emergency response network or support an existing network.
In a ten (10) week period beginning on the week of February 20, 2012, participants will attend two 2-hour webinars and two 2-day face-to-face training sessions. (A more detailed schedule is included at the end of this message.)
LYRASIS will provide training on disaster planning and recovery skills, facilitate regional recovery team building, coordinate online class registration and face to face meeting locations, and provide refreshments at face to face facilitations.
Participants need to attend all training sessions detailed below, as well as committing to creating or reviewing their institution’s Disaster Plan. This will require the use of time outside of the sessions and a consultation/coaching call between each institution and the instructors to review the disaster plan and ask follow-up questions. For online sessions, participants must have access to a computer with headset or speakers and a microphone, capable of working with the Adobe Connect training software platform (perhaps your local library has a training lab to help with this).
The face-to-face training sessions will be held at the Atlantic County Library in Mays Landing on March 7-8, 2012 and on April 19-20. Participants are responsible for funding their own travel expenses to the class site. As this is a development project, participants will be asked for feedback throughout the sessions, but we also ask that you attend an online follow up session (1-2 hours online) to provide feedback and help us refine the program.
The training sessions will be led by LYRASIS staff member Tom Clareson. Planning and local arrangements assistance is provided by the New Jersey State. If you have questions about the project, please contact Michele Stricker (mstricker@PROTECTED), or Tom Clareson (tom.clareson@PROTECTED).
The program is limited to 20 people, and we encourage all those involved in libraries, archives, historical societies, and museums to attend.
REGISTER: Email Michele Stricker at mstricker@PROTECTED by January 27, 2012. You may list a primary and secondary attendee. If we have room in the classes we will notify you that you may bring the secondary attendee.
Don’t miss this wonderful training opportunity for your cultural institutions to receive much need help in the area of disaster planning and response, plus the chance to form a disaster response network where other cultural heritage institutions can provide you with help in an emergency!
