FYI,

The message below was forwarded to me. Sounds like a great opportunity for teens in libraries but the turn-around time to do everything is short.

Maker Camp - Crazy Short Timeline - Great Opportunity

I had an opportunity to meet with the folks from Make Magazine (http://makezine.com/).

It's a magazine focused on the culture of making things. It includes instructions and patterns for building all kinds stuff. It's cool.

WHAT

Make is partnering with Google+ and offering a virtual Maker Camp for kids 13-18.

Maker Camp on Google+ will feature:

-30 projects in 30 days

-5 days of fun every week

                -Maker Mondays

                -Tinkering Tuesdays

                -Weird Science Wednesdays

                -Theoretical Thursdays

                -Field Trip Fridays

-Hangouts with amazing camp counselors

BASICS

So, here's the deal. This is the first year, and they are hoping to support as many teens as possible with this first ever virtual Maker Camp. Public Libraries are the perfect place for teens to try and also provide feedback.

The Basic Details

Dates: July 16th - August 24th

What:  Public Libraries can set up an account for the program and offer to teens

Materials: Make and Google+ will provide kits, t-shirts, buttons, badges, and copies of MAKE's School's-Out edition.

Libraries: Provide some basic coordination through Google+ and some materials to make things.

Make will provide support and informational session for librarians after their press release on July 9th.

If you think you might have libraries that have the flexibility this year to participate, please contact Vickie Welch at ...@oreilly.com">vwe...@oreilly.com.

This is a great opportunity that enables public libraries to serve as a place for creation and learning.

Hope you will have a few libraries who will be able to participate.

Take care, Stacey
