FYI,
I’m forwarding this information along to you that I received from
Brooke Bessesen, A4ED Director about
an exciting educational opportunity called
Authors for Earth Day (A4ED).
Please review the attached flyer and then generously forward this information to EVERYONE you think might be interested—especially
elementary and middle school librarians.
Authors for Earth Day is a grassroots coalition of award-winning children's authors and illustrators who are helping young readers
shape the world around them. During the month of April, each of our participants does one school visit with a wonderful twist: the author donates at least 30% of that day’s speaking fee to a non-profit conservation organization as directed by a student vote.
Students research a list of “nominees” selected by their author and then vote for their favorite—the author writes a check to the winning organization.
Authors & illustrators are already scheduling their A4ED school visits for April. And our participants—from recognizable names like
Dan Gutman, Suzy Kline, Bruce Hale and Debbie Dadey to popular regional authors to newly acclaimed talents—make an incredible educational impact:
• A4ED allows young readers to direct a substantial contribution to conservation based on democratic principles.
• A4ED gives authors and illustrators a chance to model community leadership while inspiring children toward higher levels of reading
and writing.
• A4ED offers classrooms the opportunity to discuss the vitality of the natural world and the importance of protecting resources to
ensure a sustainable future.
• A4ED helps teachers meet critical standards of education in a fresh, engaging manner.
Please help us spread the word by forwarding this to your colleagues. And let me know if you have any questions or ideas—my door is always open.
Warmest regards,
Brooke Bessesen, A4ED Director
